National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) is held on April 16 each year to educate healthcare providers and the public about the importance of advance care planning for medical decisions.

Advance care planning protects your right to determine the care you receive. Planning includes completing an advance directive (living will) and appointing a healthcare power of attorney, someone you trust to make healthcare decisions on your behalf when you cannot. Advance care planning also means sharing this information with your loved ones to insure that your wishes are honored.
